You may be at a point where you feel as if your life has been wasted because you've never lived on purpose. But just because you have been unaware of your purpose, doesn't mean that your life up until this point as been purposeless. The funny thing about life and our purposes is that whether we are aware of our calling or not, the ways we have lived up until this point have been exactly how we were supposed to. Maybe being a mother was never your dream, but God needed you to nurture another human being so they could go on to be a steward in the world of an even bigger dream. Maybe being a receptionist was never your dream, but God needed you to bring kindness to people that you would never meet in day to day life otherwise. That's not to say that you don't deserve to live the fulfilling life of your dreams, but that is to say that no matter where you are, no matter what you've been doing, no mistake has been made. You may feel as if your life has been insignificant and unimportant because you have not been living out your dream, but you must awaken yourself to the realization that your time has not been wasted. Every moment has been uniquely needed, significant and important in the grand scheme of life itsself.
Contrary to popular belief, purpose is really not defined by what we "do". Just as your life is not purposeless when you are unaware of your purpose, so is the fact that you're not magically living on purpose once you've defined what your calling is. Purpose in my head is more defined by our character, the people we are, and how we live our lives day in and day out... In the tedious things. I know it's so much more glamorous when someone is an activist, an inspirational speaker, an author, or whatever. But honestly, if I've learned anything over time being surrounded by people who have accomplished both big things, and seemingly little things in the realitive eye... It's been that those that are living humble lives (with really no intentional purpose) have made the most significant impact in my life.
Yes, great authors, musicians, speakers and philanthropists have made all made differences in ways that they may not of had the opportunity to make had they never followed their callings (which is why it is so important to embrace the dreams in our hearts). But think of it this way... That book, song, speech or global outreach is a very small percentage of opportunities in relation to the sum total of interactions, thoughts, relationships and encounters in daily life. Both on their part and ours. You affect people more through the person you are every moment of everyday, than in the small amount of time you spend intentionally trying to help people. So in conclusion, whatever we do end up doing to validate our purpose is simply just a platform to live our highest selves out. Thus, purpose can be lived out in almost anything.
For those who don't know what their "purpose" is, let me tell you... There is purpose in every little fiber of your existence, from the last text message you sent, to your interaction with the checker at the market. So you just keep being a good steward of exactly where you are at right now, because there is no mistake. Keep searching, keep choosing the higher over the lower, keep growing and learning. But never ever buy into the belief that your life has no meaning or purpose just because you don't know what your purpose is. Your purpose can not be defined by any path you choose to follow or any lifestyle you choose to lead. Your purpose is ever expanding and always unfolding whether you are aware of it or not. You are here for a reason, and if you are living with a pure heart and pure action then you are most likely right on track with life that you are supposed to be living. Everything is happening exactly the way it is meant to.
